Filmmaking Foundations is designed to introduce students to the range of skills and knowledge used in filmmaking. This hands-on course will take students through essential filmmaking techniques and they will learn how to effectively plan and execute film productions.
Overview

Students will develop a strong understanding of the filmmaking process from story and script development, previsualisation, camera, lighting and sound. This course gives students an understanding of the creative potential of the processes and tools used in the film industry.
The course covers the fundamentals of film production including:
The course is focused on learning how to create a short screen production based on a brief. Students will develop a concept, write a script, create storyboards, and edit together an animatic (a moving storyboard).
Students will plan the live shoot and get hands on experience of assisting with camera shoots on a live film set. This will include acquiring all the knowledge on how to use digital video cameras and being part of the team coordinating film productions. Finally, students will edit the video and sound to create the final film.
Filmmaking Foundations serves as a valuable bridge to further study in film production. Students will develop a portfolio of work, knowledge, and skills useful in many other fields such as design, multimedia and creative arts.
