Discover the future of film in Canberra
The Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE) will be hosting a Film Careers Day tomorrow, Saturday 30 October 2021, to showcase the future of film in Canberra.
It’s an opportunity to learn about Canberra’s vibrant film industry, filmmaking careers and film courses as well as get hands-on with the latest technology. Participants will be able to participate in a demonstration experience which delves into the world of virtual production, and all the elements that industry use to make immersive cutting-edge films.
The technology featured at Film Careers Day offering was carefully selected from leading industry suppliers. LED manufacturer LianTronics are supplying the large LED walls, especially designed for virtual production and extended reality studios. These feature fast refresh and frames rates and wide colour spectrum to create realistic virtual sets. Renown camera systems provider ARRI and Canberra film studio SilverSun Pictures have also lent their equipment and expertise to the event.
Virtual Production uses the large LED screens to display virtual sets in the background of film sets using game engine technology. This allows filmmakers to combine live-action footage with computer graphics in real time, all within the comfort of a single location. The very same virtual production technologies have been used to create incredible visual effects seen in the Disney’s The Mandalorian. Earlier this year AIE announced a world first Film and Virtual Production Course to help the film practitioners upskill and meet the demand within the industry in this rapidly emerging technology.
The accessibility of these technologies combined with AIE’s 25 years education experience provides emerging filmmakers with an exciting opportunity to learn in a practical environment, while using the latest tech.
