What is Game Jam?

A Game Jam is an adrenaline-fueled challenge where you have the opportunity to bring your game development skills to the forefront. It's a chance to collaborate with like-minded peers, learn new techniques, and build a playable game from scratch within a limited time frame. Step into the spotlight and let your imagination soar as you transform your ideas into interactive digital wonders.

Who is Game Game For?

A Game Jam is for participants with experience designing and making games or developing resources for games such as game art or game music. Because there is a very limited time to build the game, you need to be able to work well in a team to bring your game to life.

Why should you join?

Unleash Your Creativity: Give life to your wildest game ideas. Express yourself, think outside the box, and let your unique perspective shine through your creations. This is your platform to showcase your imaginative genius!

Teamwork and Friendship: Forge new friendships, connect with other talented high school developers and creatives. Collaborate, brainstorm, and work together towards a common goal. Experience the power of teamwork as you navigate the challenges of game development and create something unique.

Learn and Grow: Gain valuable hands-on experience in game development, refine your skills, and work with a team to bring your game to life. Explore new technologies, experiment with game mechanics, and expand your knowledge in a supportive environment.

Inspiring Community: Become a part of a vibrant community of young game creators. Connect with fellow students who share your passion and enthusiasm for game development. Exchange ideas, share experiences, and cheer each other on as you embark on this incredible journey together.

Recognition: Showcase your game to a panel of judges and receive recognition for your hard work and dedication. This is your chance to make a mark and be celebrated for your creativity and talent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to bring?

Bring your game design/art/programming/sound skills and plenty of ideas. We have computers and software on campus for you to use during the game jam. The game engines we will be using are Unity Engine and Unreal Engine. We will be sending more specific information on which versions of the game engines we are using before the start of the game jam.

Will I be taught how to make a game?

Game jam is two days of building a game with a team - it's not a workshop where you are taught how to make games. We will have mentors to assist you if you get stuck and to help keep you on track. We expect each member of the team to be able to contribute to the game's development in their own way.

Do I need to have a team to make a game with?

You can nominate your own team, or we can form one for you. There are plenty of participants registering on their own wanting to work with other game developers like you!

Will we be playing lots of games?

During the game jam you will be playtesting your own game and may help other team's playtest their games. Most of the time you will be working on your game with your team. You won't have any spare time for playing games.
