The Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning), specialising in Film Post-Production, is an in-depth program that immerses participants in a post-production studio environment working on unique client-driven film projects. This course has been developed for graduates from full-time 3D animation and visual effects programs who have strong practical skills in 3D modelling, animation, surfacing, rigging, lighting, rendering and compositing.

The Graduate Diploma builds on your existing skills in these areas and enables you to drive an industry-standard post-production pipelines to produce beautifully crafted visuals. Throughout the program you will plan, develop, manage and undertake post-production projects to experience and master professional practices needed to succeed as a studio contractor or freelance artist.

This course will involve you working with artists across Australia through a blended delivery mode of both face to face and online live and recorded lectures, workshops and development meetings. Participants are able to study based at our Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide campuses or study the course through our Online campus.

Areas of Study

Post Production Management

Working in a team on a project on visual effects heavy sequences and live action plates. Undertake management roles at various stages of production under the guidance and training of the VFX supervisor at multiple stages throughout production. Develop skills through a range of tasks ranging from pre-visualisation, asset creation, plate clean-up, match moving, through to post-production compositing where necessary to meet project expectations and requirements.


Learn the financial aspects of both large-scale film production and individual freelance/contract level production work. You will learn fundamental accounting techniques required to manage self and project based finances, you will also be introduced to the government and tax requirements to operate in this capacity as well as the benefits and obligations that entail. Discover how to fund films and explore various processes in acquiring funding for film productions

Research & Development

Learn to construct an applied research strategy using a range of research techniques as well as analysing and presenting these findings. Undertake a research project to identify a new industry platform, technology or technique. Create a plan to action the implementation of your findings within your own or team-based productions. Finally, you will present your conclusion and supportive information to your peers.


Develop your capacity to think, plan, operate and encourage innovation in self and team environments. You will explore theory’s and practices that promote creative innovation as well as plan and lead innovative practices within a studio environment.


In conjunction with the client driven project undertake a group consultation with the client and develop an online presence to promote the project being worked on and team working on the project. Additionally, you will also actively update and maintain an online presence, seeking feedback and engaging in various collaborative communities and partnerships.

Professional Development

Analyse and improve upon your own personal leadership style and professional competence to lead organisational and self-transformation. Explore a range of different leadership styles and demonstrate their approaches appropriate to individuals involved, model and encourage collaboration and effectively manage workplace relationships.

Entry Requirements

Entry for this Graduate Diploma course is based on completion of one of the relevant qualifications listed below or an equivalent relevant qualification, or combination of academic and/or professional qualifications demonstrating potential to undertake study at this level.

  • Bachelor of Games and Virtual Worlds (Programming)
  • Advanced Diploma of Professional Game Development
  • Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media

In addition, applicants need to produce

  • Copy of your Year 12 Certificate OR by achieving an Exit Level 3 score within the Australian Core Skills Framework assessments in reading and numeracy

An Exit Level 3 score within the Australian Core Skills Framework assessments in reading and numeracy will show that you have the capability to be successful in this course. AIE can assist you with this assessment process if required and results will be reported to you as soon as practicable. As per the Department of Education and Training guidelines, assessment results are also available to the Department Secretary on request.

Tuition fees for the intake commencing February 2019

The tuition fee for this program is $15,225. 

This course is eligible for VET Student Loans, an Australian Government loan scheme that assists eligible students to pay their tuition fees for higher-level vocational education and training (VET) courses.
