Interview with AIE graduate, Dominic McDonnell

What first interested you about game programming?
Being able to create what I loved to play.

How have your studies at AIE assisted preparing you for working in the games industry?
They provided a huge amount of experience doing what I do in the industry.

How did AIE assist you in gaining employment?
They provided forum for companies to advertise available positions and then helped with the applications to those positions.

What did you enjoy most about your time at AIE?
Making games! The nature and challenge of the assignments, which was to create complete working games was fantastic.

I know it hasn’t been long, but what are your favourite things about your current job?
Completely absorbing and challenging work, trust, flexibility, and free Coffee!

What advice would you give aspiring game programmers?
Write as much code as possible, read a lot of text books and try to implement what you read, and most importantly try to finish your projects.

Where do you hope to find yourself in five years time?
I'd like to be a senior programmer in a large company working on ambitious projects.
